Users need a more organized way to search for, edit, and save recipes so they can focus on the aspects of cooking they enjoy.
The Problem Statement
why is this problem important?
Who’s problem am I solving?
Why does it matter?
Research
What methods of research will we use to help gain clarity and bring focus to our solution? Why did we choose these methods?
We wanted to figure out how to make this site more valuable to users than other options currently available.
Research Method 01: User Survey & Interviews
We began by sending out a survey to find people who use recipes often when they cook. Our qualifying criteria was anyone who cooked 20 or more times in the last month and who followed through with using a recipe 10 or more times in the last 30 days. We wanted to gain initial feedback on the process of using recipes to help better identify user behaviors .
We conducted interviews to ask qualitative questions about their process with using recipe websites when cooking. These interviews allowed us to have deeper conversations with users to get more insight and understanding of the aspects they like, dislike, and would like to see in the current options for recipe websites.
From these interviews we pulled out key information and began looking for trends. These overall trends helped us narrow down and pull out more clearly defined insights. The insights we gathered from our research were:
Users like straightforward recipes without irrelevant content.
Users like to alter recipes based on serving size and ingredients.
Users look for recipes based on dietary restrictions and availability of ingredients they currently have at home.
Users rely on search engines to find recipes but have more trust in recommendations from social networks.
Research Method 02: Affinity Mapping
Research Method 03: Clickable Prototype
